Last week, I babysat boy/girl twins, who are three and a half years old.
Today, I am going to share an overview of my week, activities to do with kids, what I put in my babysitter bag, and how I got this babysitting job.
How I Got the Job:
I got this job through Care.com. On this website, you can set up a profile, and search for babysitting and nanny jobs. Families can also sign up, create jobs, and search for babysitters.
Seems simple enough right? While there are many jobs posted each day, I found it difficult to acquire a job. There are many other babysitters searching for jobs on this website, and parents want to find the very best babysitter for their children.
I applied to any jobs that fit my schedule, and I waited patiently. I received a couple responses, but nothing worked out.
One day, I received a message from a parent through the website. We scheduled a time for me to meet the children at their home. I took precautions with meeting a stranger in their home, and asked if my sister could sit in on the interview (my father was outside in the car the whole time).
Everything worked out great, and I got the babysitting job! I babysit occasionally, every other Friday and other days that may come up.
Overview of Babysitting:
I have babysat a total of six times so far. This past week, I was needed to babysit Tuesday (7:30am-6pm), Thursday (9am-7pm), and Friday (7:30am-7pm).
I must say that it was tiring work looking after three year old twins for about ten to twelve hours a day. However, I absolutely loved it!
The parent gave me a schedule to follow and I stuck to it! After they woke up around 8:30 or 9am, we would eat breakfast, play with toys, play outside and get in their little pool, eat lunch, read books, play with more toys, have nap time, do an activity that I brought, eat dinner, and play until their parents got home.
Yes, their days were filled with fun and excitement! It is amazing how strong of a connection I felt with these kids after only six days of being with them. This past week, they were calling me by name and hugging me good-bye.
I hope to see them again soon, because I already miss them!
Babysitter Summary:
Everyday that I babysat, I wrote out their schedule, the activities they did, and any notes. I called this my "Babysitting Summary". After a couple times of writing it out on notebook paper, I typed it up and made a template, which I will share with you!
Download my editable Babysitter Summary page to use the next time you babysit! Just fill it in with the meals, activities, rest, and diaper changes (if applicable) that happen throughout the day, and give this page to the parents when they return home.

Babysitting Activities :
Each day that I babysat, I would bring an activity to do with the kids.
For our first activity, I brought watercolors, a variety of brushes, and paper. I grabbed three small bowls from their kitchen to put water in, and we were ready to water color! Yes, I water colored with them, so I could model how it was done, and because I enjoy it!
I let them explore the different brushes (thin and thick), and allowed them to mix the colors. I also asked them what color they were painting with. They loved this activity and learned how to do it pretty fast. Their artwork is now hanging on their refrigerator!
For the water coloring activity, I also wrote their names in white crayon on the paper, and let them water color their page to reveal their name!

Another activity that these three year olds loved was Play-Doh! I brought different colors, and a variety of cookie cutters and molds that they could explore.
Play-Doh is great for developing those fine-motor skills (e.g. grasping and controlling writing utensils).

The last activity that we did was making a collage. I cut different shapes out of colored construction paper. I brought these shapes, liquid and stick glue, and paper for them to create a shape collage.
I would ask them which shapes they were holding and gluing on their paper, and what color they were.
They loved the glue! I wish that I had a picture of their finished collages, but I forgot to take a picture! Sorry!
Babysitter Bags:
Each time I babysat, I brought two bags, one with all my essentials, and the other was filled with babysitting stuff.
The babysitter bag contained:
First aid kit with Band-Aids, Neosporin, gauze pads, hand sanitizer, and wet wipes
Different children's books that I brought to read to the twins
One of the above activities
My personal bag:
A hat, sunglasses, change of clothes, and sunscreen for outdoor adventures
Homework/ book/ something to do during naptime
Pencil pouch- pens, scissors, markers
My lunchbox with food, snacks, water and of course, caffeine
